Digi-Key Corp Expands 3M Micro Touch Systems

3M (News - Alert) Touch Systems, a manufacturer of touch technology, announced that Digi-Key Corporation, a 3M distributor, will expand its 3M MicroTouch line card by adding 17”, 19”, 20”, 22” and 32” wide-aspect ratio screen sizes to the existing ClearTek II touch system product set and by offering the ToughTouch II “ruggedized” touch system product.

3M's flagship touch product, the 3M MicroTouch ClearTek II touch system, has been the industry-standard for surface capacitive products for more than 20 years. This is available in screen sizes ranging from 6.4” to 32” with technological characteristics in optical transmission, surface durability and wide operating/storage temperatures. The ClearTek II is now available with wide-aspect ratio touch sensors to fit popular wide-screen LCD displays.

The ruggedized 3M MicroTouch ToughTouch II surface capacitive touch system is an impact-resistant version of the ClearTek II touch system which is formed by laminating 4mm glass to the back of the touch sensor, making it an ideal solution for vandal-prone and harsh environments. The hybrid touch sensor complies with UL 60950 safety standards for impact breakage along with exceptional optical and reliability characteristics of the ClearTek II touch system. The hybrid touch sensor is IP66 / NEMA 4 sealable against liquids and other on-screen contaminants.

“In response to the increasing trend for wide-screen LCDs in a variety of market applications, adding wide-aspect ratio ClearTek II touch sensors to our product set will enable our customers to continue to count on MicroTouch products to meet their interactive needs,” said Mark Larson, Digi-Key president and COO, in a statement. “And, based on increased interest from our engineers for environmentally-robust products, adding the ToughTouch II product line will help us provide a rugged solution for their individual applications.”

“Digi-Key has really embraced 3M touch products as an integral part of their touch solution offering,” said Chris Tsourides, business unit manager at 3M Touch Systems, in a statement. “And we're confident that by expanding their ClearTek II line card they'll continue to make this product a leading touch technology among their engineering customer base.”

3M Touch Systems provides fast, reliable and accurate touch products under the brand name “MicroTouch”. Popular interactive applications include financial, retail point of sale, foodservice, hospitality, self-service, and interactive digital signage.
