Alcatel-Lucent Picked to Provide Triple Play Solutions to Telekom Malaysia Berhad

Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has been selected by Telekom Malaysia (News - Alert) Berhad, Malaysia’s integrated information and communication group, to roll out triple play services nationwide. As part of the agreement, Alcatel has been rewarded a two-year frame contract worth €6.5 million ($9.5 million) with Telekom Malaysia Berhad subsidiary KUB Telekomunikasi Sdn Bhd (KUBTel).
 
As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) will provide its Internet protocol (IP)-based fixed broadband access solutions to Telekom Malaysia Berhad  This include 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) and the related 5523 AWS Element Manager. Alcatel-Lucent will also be responsible for integration and maintenance of Telekom Malaysia Berhad network.
 
KUB Tel provides integrated solutions for telecommunications, electronics and multimedia-related business, said the company. It also offers services such as network management, consultancy services, research and system engineering service. KUB Tel’s major products include Wireless Local Loop (WLL) structured cabling, telecommunication/broadcasting tower and Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Lines (ADSL). Apart from Telekom Malaysia Berhad, KUB Tel serves many companies, including Putrajaya Holdings and RTM (National Broadcasting Agency).
 
KUB Tel will install and commission the system for Telekom Malaysia Berhad. Additionally it will provide nationwide technical support to the network, said Alcatel-Lucent.
 
Telekom Malaysia Berhad offers a range of communication services and solutions in broadband, data and fixed-line. Having extensive global connectivity, Telekom Malaysia is poised to position Malaysia as a regional Internet hub and digital gateway for South-East Asia, said the company.
 
“Telekom Malaysia is evolving into a next generation network service provider enabling the group to enhance its efficiency and productivity while providing enriched products and services,” said officials.
 
Alcatel-Lucent has been providing broadband access to more than 173 million digital subscriber lines (DSL) to date. According to the company, more than 190 customers have adopted the ISAM product family globally. Alcatel-Lucent also offers services in the field of design, deployment, operation and maintenance of network through its Services business
“This project reinforces our strategic relationship with TM (Telekom Malaysia) and KUBTel, which already has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s Metro Ethernet and aggregation solutions,” said Pierre Cheyron, country senior officer and managing director of Alcatel-Lucent in Malaysia, in a statement. “With our industry-leading IP broadband access, TM is now equipped with the key component of Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play (News - Alert) Services Delivery Architecture.”
