School Kids Pledge to President Obama to Do Their Part for Earth Day

For more than three decades now school children in the United Sates, and throughout the world, have pitched in to help green the environment during annual Earth Day festivities.

When the eco-activist centered event first began in 1970, recycling aluminum cans and old tires was often the focal point of student’s efforts. But as technology has increased and environmental concerns grow along with it, there are a myriad of ways to cut back on the environmental impacts effecting modern life.

Now, Earth Day has new twist on an old environmental lament as CardsDirect.com has created an Earth Day Card Campaign that encourages primary school children (K-5) to utilized specially-designed greetings printed on 100 percent recycled card stock.

The pledges represent their personalized, direct response to President Barack Obama's call for a "New Era of Responsibility."

"It's truly inspiring to see school age children wanting to do their part to help the environment," said Ward Mahowald, founder and CEO of CardsDirect.com.

Earth Day, celebrated April 22, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment and is held annually during both spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year.

Throughout April, New York City public school children have utilized the cards, provided by CardsDirect.com, and are shipping them off to President Obama at the White House as part of CardsDirect's recently launched line of recycled greeting cards, filling a void in the marketplace for bulk greeting cards, according to Mahowald.

"The program helps kids understand the value of implementing small changes and our hope is that the President will receive these and know his words are being heard by people of all ages," said Mahowald.

The Earth Day Card Pledge Campaign provides recycled greeting cards from CardsDirect.com that are available in many categories including Birthday, Thank You, Sympathy, Get Well, Anniversary and more.

As with all CardsDirect.com cards, recycled greetings may be custom imprinted and personalized in your choice of fonts and color of ink. Their line of recycled photo cards includes all this and your favorite photograph. Cards average $1.25 each for 100 cards and may be purchased in minimum batches of 25.

Schools involved include: PS 161 Don Albizu Campos School and PS 375 Mosaic Preparatory Academy in East Harlem and PS 124 Yung Wing Elementary School in Chinatown.
