Conexant Systems, a provider of semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and consumer products, announced that it is providing ADSL2plus central office (CO) solutions to ZTE (News - Alert), a telecommunications equipment provider based in China.

Conexant said it is supplying CX95516 and CX95524 CO solutions to power ZTE’s new ZXDSL 9806H CO digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs), which are being used in worldwide broadband access networks.

Conexant’s CX95516 and CX95524 enable operators to improve delivery of advanced voice, video, and data services such as Internet protocol-based television (IPTV (News - Alert)), video-on-demand (VoD), and high-definition television (HDTV) programming.

According to Conexant, ZTE’s compact ZXDSL 9806H supports up to 96 Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2 (ADSL2) and ADSL2plus lines and is targeted at multi-tenant unit/multi-dwelling broadband access applications. This next-generation DSLAM offers significant power-consumption savings per port and reduced carbon footprint capabilities. It has exceeded European code of conduct energy consumption parameters for broadband equipment and was chosen as the winner in the “Best Green Innovation” category at the Convergence (News - Alert) World Awards 2008 competition held at London, England, in April.

“We’re pleased that ZTE selected our highly integrated central office solutions for their next-generation central office product,” said Craig Garen, senior vice president and general manager of Conexant’s Broadband Access business, in a statement. “We remain committed to delivering technical innovations that improve the performance of advanced broadband access networks, and provide our customers with a competitive edge.”

Xu Ming, general manager of ZTE’s Fixed Network division, said, “Conexant’s technology enabled us to develop a high-performance DSLAM with improved impulse noise protection, which is essential to the delivery of high-quality IPTV-over-DSL services. Conexant’s CO solutions also allowed us to develop the industry’s lowest power DSLAM, and meet our customers increasing demand for more power-efficient and environmentally conscious solutions.”

Apart from CO solutions, Conexant offers customer premises equipment (CPE) solutions, software, and reference designs for asymmetric and symmetric DSL applications including ADSL2plus, SHDSL, and VDSL2. It also offers fiber access solutions, including the Xenon family of products for passive optical networking (PON) applications.
