Here is a recap of a few of this week’s top green stories:

Toyota Goes Green

Toyota is proud to go green. The automaker recently released its 2010 North America Environmental Report highlighting its environmental progress over the last fiscal year. The report is an update on progress toward the goals and targets set in the company's Environmental Action Plan.

Toyota officials asserted that Toyota is fully committed to sustainability across their operations. In addition to developing technologically advanced, fuel-efficient vehicles, they consider the environmental, social and economic consequences of everything they do. They are proud of their performance over the past year and they will continue to look for ways to reduce their environmental impact and improve their operations.

Down the Electric Road

In other news, GE is collaborating with the Electrification Coalition to develop a fleet electrification roadmap.

The Electrification Coalition is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit group of business leaders aiming to promote policies that lead to the deployment of electric vehicles on a massive scale.

The goal is essentially to accelerate the conversion of the 16 million commercial, corporate, and government fleet vehicles on the road in the United States.

The collaboration has brought attention to the benefits and challenges of electric vehicle deployment and the policies that govern their implementation. Also under consideration is the potential impact of fleet electrification on transportation, energy security, and sustainability.

Recycle Your Cellphones

And not to be outgreened, Sprint (News - Alert) Nextel has been reminding consumers of the environmental benefits of recycling their old or unused wireless devices through take-back programs such as Sprint Buyback and Sprint Project Connect.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 140 million old mobile devices are improperly disposed of each year, potentially releasing environmentally sensitive materials into the air and water.

The program that Sprint offers can allow consumers to be responsible towards the environment – even when it comes to their cellphones.
