Freedom Online Deploys BridgeWave's AR60X, License-Free 60 GHz Radio Link

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Freedom Online announced today that it’s implemented BridgeWave’s (News - Alert) “AR60X,” a license-free 60 GHz radio link.

The company said it used the BridgeWave 1.25 Gbps links to connect a wireless aggregation point on Freedom Online’s network backbone to a collocation facility in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for access to a data storage facility and Internet portal.

Freedom Online officials say they picked BridgeWave’s wireless Ethernet links for backbone applications that require high capacity, low latency and “five nines” availability. By integrating into Freedom Online’s network management systems, BridgeWave’s products deliver overall value far superior to leased fiber services, and provide a rapid return on investment, according to the company.

The installation and testing was flawless, according to Ted Mahoney, president and chief executive officer of Freedom Online. Technicians said they were excited about the ease of installation, the tested performance, and throughput of this unit. Mahoney said that the system booted-up on the first try with no system errors, and packet delay was only 0.9 milliseconds, company officials say.

The BridgeWave license-free 60 GHz and 80 GHz systems will help Freedom Online to upgrade and extend their backbone network in the Miami and West Palm Beach areas.

Mahoney said that with the addition of Advanced Encryption Standard to the AR60X radio link, Freedom Online will meet security standards and U.S. Army Infrastructure MODernization program security requirements.

IMOD aims to improve the fiber optic cable and wireless communications at military bases and installations worldwide by integrating voice, data, cable plan or transmission products and services into a single, integrated communications system.
